With a population of around 13,000 people, the city of Truro is situated in central Nova Scotia at the east end of Cobequid Bay.
Originally, Truro began as a fishing town and then transitioned into a farming community. When the railroad was put in during the late 1800s and transporting goods became easier, other businesses popped up, including mills. While the economy has experienced some leaner years than the past, many see a resurgence on the horizon. The city has put a lot of effort into improving and developing the downtown core, and there has been a lot of growth in the private sector.
Despite being smaller in size, Truro still has a lot of interesting things for visitors and residents to enjoy. Victoria Park is a popular place to visit. This 3,000-acre park is situated right in the centre of town. It has some amazing walking trails, biking trails, beautiful waterfalls, and a heated outdoor pool. Another place to spend some time is on the Cobequid Trail, which has 18 km of walking and cycling paths. You can visit year-round, so consider snowshoeing or cross-country skiing during the winter. On Saturdays, you can head to the Truro Farmers’ Market to pick up some produce and other goods including cheese, wine, mead, baked bread, and other treats.
