While most of the residents still call Dartmouth a city, it is considered an urban community and former city since it was absorbed into the Halifax Regional Municipality in 1996. Halifax is right across the water from Dartmouth.

Dartmouth is often referred to as the City of Lakes because there are so many nearby lakes. It has a population of around 92,000 residents, with the government being one of the region’s major employers. Other industries important to Dartmouth and nearby communities include transportation, aerospace, manufacturing, and communications.

Getting Around in Dartmouth

Halifax Transit is responsible for the local bus system in the Halifax Regional Municipality, which includes Dartmouth.
