Bathurst is found in the northern part of New Brunswick along the Nepisiguit River estuary. The region was first settled by Europeans in the 1600s, became a town in 1912 and received city status in 1966. The population of Bathurst is around 12,000 people.

The economy is centred around fishing, forestry, and mining. Other industries important to the city include call centres, manufacturing, government, and tourism.
