Eric thorsteinson, CENTURY 21 Assurance Realty Ltd., Helps host an Outdoor Drive-in Movie for Local Food Bank

Eric Thorsteinson from CENTURY 21 Assurance Realty Ltd. in Kelowna, BC partnered with K96.3 Classic Rock to host an outdoor drive-in movie to support the Central Okanagan Food Bank.

With many of the summer activities being banned during the pandemic, watching an outdoor drive-in movie was one of the few that was safe and manageable.
So, Eric organized a fun, safe and helpful outdoor movie event. The public’s safety was still their number one concern, with many safety precautions put into place for the event nights – patrons had to be in a vehicle, no food or concession, tickets were pre-sold, and space was limited to 50 vehicles with a maximum of 6 people per car.

The first showing was on Friday and Saturday night in early June – put on by Outside Cinema at Trinity Church – showing the family-friendly movie “Onwards.” Attendees were asked to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to the Central Okanagan Food Bank to help their community’s members during these challenging times. The outdoor drive-in movie event will continue all summer with the goal of feeding over 1,000 Okanagan families through the Central Okanagan Food Bank.

“Thank you to everyone that came out for our opening weekend and donated to the Central Okanagan Food Bank. Your generosity will help us meet our goal of assisting many local families during these challenging times.”- Eric Thorsteinson, CENTURY 21 Assurance Realty Ltd.

CENTURY 21 Executives Realty Ltd. Team Helps Host a Front Door Food Drive

Bill Hubbard and the CENTURY 21 Executives Realty Ltd. team along with EZ Rock and SunFM hosted a front door food drive in May to help raise food donations for the Salvation Army Food Bank.

Since the start of the global pandemic, Bill and the C21 team had been looking for ways to help while still keeping people safe, then they came up with the front door food drive.  For this drive, donors were asked to put their non-perishable food items outside their front door where a volunteering C21 agent would pick it up with no contact to ensure social distancing and to help keep their neighbours and volunteers safe.

The drive was held in Armstrong, Coldstream, Enderby, Lumby, Salmon Arm, Sicamous and Vernon over two days and was a huge success. There was an equivalent of 3 truckloads of food donated to help the Salvation Army Food Bank and members of their community through these challenging times.

Thank you, CENTURY 21 Executives Realty Ltd. team, the helping volunteers, and donors for your effort!

“Our company was built on the value of giving back to the community that supports us. The front door food drive was a wonderful way to do this and it also gave our Realtors a positive sense of helping out. “- Bill Hubbard, CENTURY 21 Executives Realty Ltd.

The A-Team North Bay donates $5000 to the North Bay YMCA

Andrew Dean and Anthony Falcioni of the A-Team North Bay, CENTURY 21 Blue Sky Region Realty Inc., made a $5,000 donation to the North Bay YMCA for support during COVID-19.

In January, the two agents—in partnership with the YMCA—announced the
Get Fit Challenge which would raise money for the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign to help send local in-need kids to the YMCA Summer Camp. 12 dads joined together with the goal of losing 200 lbs collectively, and the A-Team North Bay pledged a $10 donation for every pound lost.

Unfortunately, the challenge had to be put on hold with the fitness facility closures due to the virus, but that did not stop the A-Team North Bay from giving back. Their major donation will help the YMCA to continue to support the community through emergency childcare, online offerings and much more.

“While the YMCA might not be able to open its doors at this time, we wanted to do what we could to ensure they can continue to help keep our community safe, healthy and connected.”  – Andrew Dean, A-Team North Bay, CENTURY 21 Blue Sky Region Realty Inc.

CENTURY 21 Millennium Inc. joined the Hike or Bike for Hospice as the title sponsor and entered a team in early March to help raise money for their local hospice – Hospice Georgian Triangle (HGT). HGT had recently been approved to expand their facility, increasing their funding needs so their annual fundraising event was more important than ever. Then, because of COVID-19, they had to change their usual in-person event into a virtual one.

The 10th Annual Hike or Bike for Hospice – The Virtual Edition took place Sunday, May 31, 2020 with participants hiking or biking on their own or with their household, following social distancing rules to keep themselves and neighbours safe. The goal was to raise $80,000, but thanks to the community’s relentless support they collected $111,397.48 – the most the event has ever raised since it’s creation.

10th Annual Hike or Bike for Hospice

The C21 team was the top fundraising team this year, donating $17,310, and won the $1000 gift card to a local ski/snowboard retailer. Their plan is to use this gift card to “pay it forward” as a continuation of support for the members of their community.

“We are so proud of our wonderful team at CENTURY 21 Millennium Inc. in the Collingwood, Thornbury and Wasaga Beach offices for being the top fundraising team for this event. Their tireless effort in supporting the Hospice Georgian Triangle during these challenging times will help so many in our community. CENTURY 21 Granite Realty Group Inc. ‘Jumps In The Lake’ to raise money for The Coboconk and Area Food Bank

Dean Michel and Jennifer Bacon, CENTURY 21 Granite Realty Group Inc., created the ‘Jump In The Lake’ Challenge to help raise more than $15,000 for the local Coboconk and Area Food Bank (CAFB). The CAFB is facing new challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic—increased food prices, limited volunteers available due to social distancing measures, and increased demand with the expectation that the number of clients will continue to grow.

Recognizing the pressing need for funds in a time of increased demand at the CAFB, Dean said he would jump into the chilly waters of Balsam Lake if he received $500 in donations. He then challenged his wife Jennifer to jump in if they reached $1,000, and when the donations continued to roll in, they shared the challenge with other brave souls on Balsam Lake and other lakes in the area. On Saturday May 2, almost a dozen families and individuals took the plunge in support of the CAFB and other local charities.

“The Coboconk and Area Foodbank (CAFB) is crucial to our community as we have a number of low-income families who rely on us year-round and seasonal workers who rely on us occasionally,” said Food Bank Chair, Amy Alfredsson. The CAFB receives no government funding and relies on private donations. “We are fortunate to live in a supportive and generous community,” said Alfredsson.

“We did it! And more importantly everyone else out there did it, they donated, they gave so much support, everyone joined in, it was fantastic! We just want to thank everyone again for joining this really fun ‘Jump In The Lake’ Challenge.”- Dean Michel and Jennifer Bacon, CENTURY 21 Granite Realty Group Inc.

CENTURY 21 Heritage Group Ltd. creates Heritage Helpers to support community members during the COVID-19 pandemic

Eryn Richardson, CENTURY 21 Heritage Group Ltd., was at home wondering what he could do to help those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he started Heritage Helpers. This volunteer network website is dedicated to connecting homebound locals with volunteers who can help with a variety of tasks: grocery shopping, delivering medication or providing useful resources.

With about 30 realtors volunteering in five local communities, many of the elderly or at-risk members are getting the help they needed after receiving the strict advice to stay home. Heidi Shiraz, CENTURY 21 Heritage Group Ltd., joined the network as soon as it was created, saying “It’s our job to connect with people. It’s rewarding to be a volunteer.”

Please join us in thanking Eryn Richardson, the CENTURY 21 Heritage Group Ltd. team and the Heritage Helpers volunteers for all their hardwork in supporting their community during these trying times.

“The biggest issue is that people don’t think they need help or they are timid to ask for help. Don’t be embarrassed. Everyone needs help.” – Eryn Richardson, CENTURY 21 Heritage Group Ltd.
