Upcycling Your Home Decor

Upcycling Your Home Decor

If your home isn’t set up for a fireplace but you’d still like to get the look, a faux fireplace may be just the thing for you! These facades give your living room a classic, traditional feel, but also allow you to be creative with textures and colours. Give your stockings a place to hang with care and pick a fake fireplace to make your home merry and bright. Want the year to focus on less consumerism? Give old items some love and repurpose them for a new life in your home! You’ll be amazed at how a little TLC can turn the old into new, and give your home a fresh look while saving the planet (and your wallet!)

Give a China cabinet new life

Many homeowners may be inheriting beautiful wooden cabinets that once housed the family’s prized china, but younger generations aren’t carrying on the tradition. No need to ditch the cabinets though – consider giving them a sanding and a fresh coat of paint and using them for storage using fabric boxes for a uniform and clean look.

Turn an old bar stool into an end table

If you change out your bar stools, there may not be a need to ditch all of them! Consider taking a wooden bar stool and trimming off the edges to get a small end table that fits perfectly into a small space if you’re in a tight squeeze.

Bring an old dresser into the kitchen to create an island

If you’re looking to redo your wardrobe, consider bringing your old dresser into the kitchen! With a classic wood stain paint job, you could have a brand-new kitchen island with ample storage if you have oodles of miscellaneous kitchen gadgets that need a proper home.

Find new life for old fabrics in throw pillows

It’s a good idea to refresh linens you use regularly, and when old sheets or towels have reached the end of their life, consider trimming them down and sewing them into throw pillow covers. It’s a money saver and you get to keep a little souvenir of décor long past.

Turn cans into planters

Whether it’s a small soup can or a larger popcorn tin, old tin cans have endless uses. The best one is to give it a cover of paint, fabric or paper and turn it into a planter to get some new life into your home. The smaller cans will look great on a counter or windowsill, while the larger tins could be attractive pieces on a porch or balcony.
